This unusual lighthouse stood for years on the Palos Verde Peninsula keeping mariners off the rocks of decadence, sin and evil located along the southern California coast, especially inland in Hollywoodland. The house was shelled and destroyed by sub-mariner Akira Kurosawa when Japan attacked Hollywood in 1942 ( see Speilberg’s documentary film,1941). During its heyday of vigilance, the house had the traditional architectural details: a spiral staircase, storeroom, kitchen, bedroom, library, lantern and lens. When off-duty and during strong winds, the keepers fished for their dinners by dropping a fish line from a kite. No kidding. |
